The Tallahassee Chan Center (TCC) is a community of practitioners learning and living the Buddha's teachings through the tradition of the Dharma Drum Lineage of Chan (Zen) Buddhism, as established by Chan Master Sheng Yen.
TCC was founded in 2009 by our teacher Guo Gu (Dr. Jimmy Yu), one of Master Sheng Yen's senior and closest disciples. We share our facility with other Buddhist groups practicing at the Tallahassee Buddhist Community, located in Railroad Square Art Park in downtown Tallahassee.
Chan is a Buddhist meditation school that is found throughout East Asia. It is known as Zen in Japan, Thiên in Vietnam, and Sŏn (Seon) in Korea. Its distinctive form first took shape in China some fourteen hundred years ago. The aim of Chan is to live life with wisdom and compassion for all beings. Chan also refers to the direct awakening to the interconnectedness of all things. The foundation of Chan is seated meditation, but ultimately Chan practice must extend to all aspects of daily life.
